Tree Trimming Fredericksburg VA: Before trimming a large tree, it’s important to know just what cut you should make. If your heavy limb has been pruned improperly or damaged the bark by accident, the tree may not heal properly and could deteriorate.

You may not realize how easy tree caring is until you plan ahead and think about the work involved if you can't remove a dead tree.

Here are the 3 steps for proper tree trimming and pruning:

#1 - Notch Cut: Make a small notch in the trunk at 2-3 feet distance from it and about a quarter of the way through. This notch keeps bark attached when you cut deeper.

#2 - Relief Cut: On the outermost part of the branch, make a relief cut through it. This leaves a lighter weight at the end you can work with easier.

#3 - Final cut: This is the one that matters! Here’s what you need to do. From where the branch collar transitions from swollen bump to smooth bark, make your cut so it slopes smoothly into the notch, being careful not to press too hard and go over the collar of wood.
